As most people know, IKEA is a place where you can get great furniture for a relatively inexpensive price. There are people who have completely redone their kitchen with everything from IKEA except for the appliances. At IKEA, you can get everything you need for your kitchen including counter tops, islands, cabinets, kitchen furniture, sinks and lighting. Here are ten of the best sites with resources about IKEA kitchens followed by an eleventh website that I do not suggest as a resource.
- The IKEA Canada Website: On their website, you can see almost everything that is available to buy in the store. They also have other resources such as room ideas and how-to articles. I chose this one for the first one on the list as where better to go when looking for information than the stores website; especially this one as it is complete with a lot of useful articles and info. (www.ikea.ca)
- IKEA fans – Essential resources for IKEA kitchen planning: This website is a go-to website for any information about IKEA. It is a site made by IKEA fans, and the content is also from people who enjoy shopping at IKEA. They have a lot of useful information about IKEA kitchens on their blog. One example of an article is warnings, or things to remember when rebuilding your kitchen. They also provide real life stories of before and after IKEA kitchen renovations. A great website to get inspiration. (www.ikeafans.com)
- YouTube video of IKEA Kitchen Installation: So I thought this video was great to show the work involved in installing cabinets from IKEA. It’s actually a real video of the entire remodelling process but simply fast-forwarded so that the 14-hour process only lasts five minutes. There are also other videos on YouTube showing IKEA kitchen makeovers, but this one is the only one I was able to find that showed everything from start to finish. (www.youtube.com)
- Blog – Painting IKEA kitchen cabinets: This is one blog post on the Carol Reed Design blog. This particular blogger provides a step-by-step explanation of how to paint IKEA cabinets. Although Cabinets are a good price, it is still an expensive product and you wouldn’t want to ruin them if you decide to paint them. This blog was chosen among others because of its detailed explanation of every step. (carolreeddesign.blogspot.com)
- Collection of IKEA kitchen pictures: This blog has an impressive collection of IKEA kitchen makeovers. This website does not give you any information such as how-to guides, but I chose it because of the fact that it really shows how one can renovate their kitchen on a budget, but still having it look really nice. Some of these kitchens are simply amazing. (decorhappy.blogspot.com)
- How to download and use IKEA Home Planner: IKEA has a tool on their website called the IKEA Home Planner. This YouTube video explains how to download this software, and also how to use it. It is seven minutes long and gives you the exact step-by-step instructions. It is very good for someone who is interested in using this software. (www.youtube.com)
- IKEA Kitchens – Remodelling Guide: This blog was started in 2006, and although the poster did not make a lot of posts, they are still very helpful. I think her blog is more of an advertisement for her company based in LA who remodels homes using IKEA cabinets. She gives us a couple How-to guides and other information on IKEA kitchens and may even be a good resource for people who live in her area. (ikeakitchenhelp.blogspot.com)
- IKEA kitchen island… Good alternative or dumb idea? After doing a lot of reading on IKEA kitchens, I do not agree with this information, however I think it gives a good overview of someone who does not believe it is worth it to buy IKEA kitchen islands. This guy is a contractor, so I can understand why he feels this way, because he is able to build an island without the help of IKEA. (homerenovations.about.com)
- How to install a new IKEA kitchen? This website gives you detailed step by step instructions on how to layout and plan your kitchen then how to install an IKEA kitchen. The home doctor explains everything he did to build an IKEA kitchen including pictures every single step of the way. It is really worth the read if you are planning on renovating your kitchen with IKEA products. (www.thehomedr.com)
- Ikea Hackers – Kitchen Section: This website is comprised of various IKEA hacks; these are IKEA products that are modified to make them work for the people writing the articles. The kitchen section of this website has 121 articles, and most of them are related to IKEA. I chose it because I find it interesting how someone takes the time to figure out how to modify IKEA products to make them look better, and that they take the time to share it with others. (www.ikeahackers.net)
- kitchen Remodeling Help: The reason I chose this particular website as the one to avoid is because basically all it is a website trying to sell this person’s book, and the book does not contain any information that you cannot find online in the resources I provided you. I simply don’t believe this book is worth anyone’s time and money. (www.kitchenremodelinghelp.com)
