It is a long time since I have studied anything other than the weather forecast. This isn’t something which bothers me, as I hated school and couldn’t wait to get out of there and into a poorly paid and crushingly boring job.
Recently I have been tempted to learn some new skills and if I weren’t so lazy I might do one of the following things.
I can handle some things in the kitchen but my repertoire is seriously limited. By studying moderne cuisine I can perhaps learn how to make more than pasta, a basic tomato sauce and, at a push, mashed potatoes. As long as they don’t teach me weird stuff like using a giant blow torch on cupcakes then I should enjoy the experience.
Start Sewing
If I take a course with an Omega sewing machine I could soon find myself, well, sewing things I suppose. Would this be a good thing? Depends what I have that needs sewing I guess. Right now I have a jumper which needs some stitches and a part of socks with holes in them. That’s not really enough to justify taking a long term course, is it? It would be easier and cheaper to buy replacements.
When we got our copper gutters added to the house the guy who did them said that he was the only person in town who did this job. Do I smell a business opportunity? It’s just a shame I am afraid of heights or I could take a course in guttering.
The Medical Approach
I could learn some medicine and work in one of the local allergy clinics. There are only two problems here. Firstly, there aren’t any allergy clinics here. Secondly, I am allergic to loads of things, so I would end up getting whatever my patients have. Not a great career move I don’t think.
